Member Perceptions on ‘Aragalaya’ People’s Movement in Sri Lanka

Following the 2022 Aragalaya, Citizen X Core (CXC) conducted a public survey to better understand the evolving civic and political attitudes of Sri Lankans and to inform the organisation’s future strategies, approaches, and activities. The survey was based on the recognition that many citizens had lost confidence in traditional political parties and were seeking meaningful alternatives and systemic change.

While the protests may have subsided, the aspirations that fuelled them remain strong. The study explored the factors that drove civic participation during the Aragalaya, motivations and barriers affecting continued engagement, the issues most important to respondents, and the types of civic and community activities they wish to participate in going forward.
